An Evaluation of the Degree of Anxiety Among¢¥ Boys¢¥ High School Students

Abstract
I have tried to evaluate the degree of anxiety among boys¢¥ high school students with the questionnaire to 723 students in 4 boys¢¥ high schools according to the manifest anxiety scale of Taylor (MAS) as modified by Sugiyama. The data of this study have been studied with those from schools in Seoul and Taegu between the period of July 9, 1979 and July 14, 1979 to obtain the following results:
1. The average point of the degree of anxiety of the group in Seoul showed 19.58 while that in the local area, 20.77, so that I have found that the score of the group in the provincial area was remarkably high and it showed a significant difference statistically (p<0.05). The critical scores of the total showed 40. 8per cent in Seoul, 50.8 per cent in the local area and 45.2 per cent in average.
2. The average point of the degree of anxiety in the first year showed 19.21, 19.97, in the second year, and 21.98, in the third year. And I have found that the higher the year was, the higher the score was. There was a significant difference among the three groups statistically (p<0. O1). The critical scores of the total were 37.7 per cent in the first year, 43.9 per cent, in the second year, and 60.9 per cent, in the third year.
3. In the anxiety about their academic scores, the average point of the degree of anxiety of intellectual students showed 19.52, that of ordinary students, 20.54, and that of slow students, 20.51. And I have found that there was no significant difference among the three groups statistically. (p>0.05) The critical score of the group of intellectual students showed 40.0 per cent, that of ordinary students, 48.6 per cent, and that of slow students, 49.6 per cent.
4. In the average point of the degree of anxiety about religion, that of those who had their religion showed 19.48, that of those who did not have their religion, 20.65. And 1 have found that those who did not have their religion showed higher points. There was a significant difference statistically (p<0.05). The critical score of the group who had their religion showed 40.2 per cent and the group who did not have their religion, 48.8 per cent.
5. In ,the matter of the relation _with their parents, the average point . of the degree of anxiety,in the group whose relation ,was. very good showed 21.35, that in the group whose relation was good, 24.18, and that in the
group found that the worse the relation with their parents s wtis relation, the higher irthe + 18. And I have

of the ordinary grou Y group showed 48.3 per cent, that
group, 43.8 Per cent, and that of the poor group, 53.9 per cent.
7. In the smoking habit, the average point of the degree of anxiety of the smoking showed 21.03, that of the non-smoking group
group, 19.46. And I have found that the point was
g group and that there was a significant differerence between the two groups statistically (p<0, 05) The critical score of the smoking
and that of non-smoking prou group was 51,6 per cent and that of non-smoking proug. 40.6 per cent.
